All Hallows by All Hallows I have been wanting a Finfolk All Hallows Eve mermaid tail for ever (well since last year when they released this limited edition tail and I was completely povvo and couldn't afford to buy it).  A local Perth mermaid, the awesome Kirstie Godfrey, recently decided she didn't love the colours and agreed to sell me her brand new, tags still attached, size small AHE.  Note the size small. So I used to be a size small.  Hell I used to be a size XS...but not so much in the last 6 to 7 years. But I REALLY love this tail and if anything can inspire me to lose the chub it is this beautiful piece of whimsy..  So I have set myself a goal of being able to fit comfortably into her by Halloween (this year you cheater).  Fully stretched at the waist, this tail is only just 62 cm.  According to the Finfolk size chart for this tail an S is supposed to be 71.12cm at the waist.  An XS is meant to be 66cm. Finfolk, despite making beautiful tails, are a

The Haunted Dolls House - Part 1

One of my favourite Bloggers (and writers) is Jenny Lawson aka The Bloggess . She is super smart, super funny, super weird and, as an extra bonus to her brilliant writing (and drawing), she has also been making a Haunted Dolls House for years. I personally think this is an extremely cool project and one I had recently decided to copy pursue as a form of therapy for some truly awful crap I have been going through for the past few years. So imagine my delight when I spotted this little piece of slightly spooky decrepitude on someones verge this morning while I was walking the doggies. Mock Tudor, two story abandoned Dolls House! Perfection. Anyhoo, I raced the dogs home, jumped in the car and roared two blocks back to grab it before anyone else could.  Because, of course, people would be lining up to get a piece of this sweet spooky action! So here's some more shots - no idea what my plans are yet but I think this could be a fun project to work on when stress, a

Mermaids, Fishing and Witchmarks

Wednesday 20 December 2017 Waxing Crescent So..I have a lot of hobbies and passions. Some of them are more mainstream than others...some not so much. I do barebow recurve archery (and sometimes longbow), mermaiding, creative writing, witchcraft, fishing, gardening and cooking. I also draw and occasionally sew.  Come winter I am planning on learning how to spin.  I also have a ukulele that I pretend to learn. I work full time but my kids are, mostly, off my hands. Every two weeks, The Duke arrives.  This is both most excellent and an unholy distraction (mostly the former). Yesterday I had virtuous intentions of doing some preparation paperwork for our impending battle on Friday... But the day was fine and the sea was calling...... Mermaiding is something I have discovered only recently.  I am trying to complete my PhD - (The Anatomy of Mermaids: a creative exploration of post-structuralist theories of desire as absence through the metaphor of the siren). Earlier thi

New Moon Binding

Image
Tuesday 19 December 2017 Apogee So last night I performed a binding spell for the New Moon.  It was a variation (and escalation) of one I have performed many times in the past.  The last time I bound this person it worked fantastically well, although it ended up being a much more literal binding that I expected. The Duke and I are once again having to face this particular adversity and I wanted to ensure my protections and wards were strong.  I also decided to do another binding  and, rather than just repeat the original, I decided to add a stronger simulacrum spell to the binding ritual. I made the poppet earlier in the year, during spring, using local grasses. I love Hedgewitching in Spring. My suburb is a garden suburb, so it's ridiculously easy to find almost anything you want, just by taking a stroll. All my preparations went fine, not surprisingly, as I've been planning this working for quite a while. The son left to go to D&D so he was saved from any e

So Mote it Be New Moon (Descending) Monday 18 December 2017 1.59pm Tonight is the last New Moon of the year. I have two major bindings to do as well as needing to strengthen my boundary wards. The Duke and I are about to re-enter an arena that fills us with sorrow and dread and we can't go there unprotected.  The son  is off to D&D this evening, which will spare him the horror of my naked weirdness, so preparations will commence in the late afternoon. On the up side - I've just started seven weeks annual leave. I have a list of things a mile long  that I want to achieve, including finishing the first draft of my PhD, getting my first novel up onto Amazon, improving my archery, getting fit and doing as much mermaiding as I possibly can. The weather has not allowed for an auspicious start to the latter; an unseasonable winter style front has been hammering the coast for the last 24 hours. Given it's only 6 days until Christmas in Western Australia, this is tru
