Mermaids, Fishing and Witchmarks

Image
Wednesday 20 December 2017 Waxing Crescent So..I have a lot of hobbies and passions. Some of them are more mainstream than others...some not so much. I do barebow recurve archery (and sometimes longbow), mermaiding, creative writing, witchcraft, fishing, gardening and cooking. I also draw and occasionally sew.  Come winter I am planning on learning how to spin.  I also have a ukulele that I pretend to learn. I work full time but my kids are, mostly, off my hands. Every two weeks, The Duke arrives.  This is both most excellent and an unholy distraction (mostly the former). Yesterday I had virtuous intentions of doing some preparation paperwork for our impending battle on Friday... But the day was fine and the sea was calling...... Mermaiding is something I have discovered only recently.  I am trying to complete my PhD - (The Anatomy of Mermaids: a creative exploration of post-structuralist theories of desire as absence through the metaphor of the si...

New Moon Binding

Image
Tuesday 19 December 2017 Apogee So last night I performed a binding spell for the New Moon.  It was a variation (and escalation) of one I have performed many times in the past.  The last time I bound this person it worked fantastically well, although it ended up being a much more literal binding that I expected. I made the poppet earlier in the year, during spring, using local grasses. I love Hedgewitching in Spring. My suburb is a garden suburb, so it's ridiculously easy to find almost anything you want, just by taking a stroll. All my preparations went fine, not surprisingly, as I've been planning this working for quite a while. The son left to go to D&D so he was saved...

So Mote it Be New Moon (Descending) Monday 18 December 2017 1.59pm Tonight is the last New Moon of the year. I have two major bindings to do as well as needing to strengthen my boundary wards. The Duke and I are about to re-enter an arena that fills us with sorrow and dread and we can't go there unprotected.  The son  is off to D&D this evening, which will spare him the horror of my naked weirdness, so preparations will commence in the late afternoon. On the up side - I've just started seven weeks annual leave. I have a list of things a mile long  that I want to achieve, including finishing the first draft of my PhD, getting my first novel up onto Amazon, improving my archery, getting fit and doing as much mermaiding as I possibly can. The weather has not allowed for an auspicious start to the latter; an unseasonable winter style front has been hammering the coast for the last 24 hours. Given it's only 6 days until Christmas in Western Australia, this is t...
